Owned by Jesse J Schurman in 1905, located on Maple Ave. Bass River. The property (3/8 acre) was purchased for $45 on Sept. 7, 1903 from Rupert D. Fulton and his wife Ellen. With a further 1/4 acre purchased on Feb. 2nd, 1906 from Chas. P. Deyarmond. From there the house passed through the hands of James Ross Fulton’s heir Edna May Fulton, and then to Hazel Fletcher (Mrs. Donald Taggart).

George Lewis

On Feb. 28th 1858 George Lewis married Rebecca (Lewis) Davidson. Not long after, George built this house. Later, on April 27, 1893, he sold the house to his son George Melville Lewis (married to Amelia J. (Peppard) Lewis. George Melville Lewis later transferred the property to his son Roland B. Lewis (married to Florence (Fulton) Lewis).

Mrs. J. W. Davison

Charlotte Davison married three times. First to Rufus Wilson, then to James William Fulton in Dec. 13th, 1870 and finally to James William Davison on Dec. 6th, 1883. This property was later owned by Mrs. Davison’s daughter Lelia Wilson (Mrs. Ed Boyd). Later it was owned by Wilkins B. Durning and his wife Harriet and later Jean and Johnny Durning.

D. S. Collins

This was the residence of D.S.Collins, who was the manager of the Fossil Flour Company’s mill located at Silica Lake. Angus Hingley lived there later. This house was later bought by J. S. Creelman as a summer cottage. The roof was raised and a glassed-in porch added. It has been moved at least twice due to shoreline erosion.

Ernest Wilson

This was originally sold by James H. Fulton to Alexander Ross on May 27, 1881. It is believed to have a dwelling on the property at this point due to the increase in value from a previous sale. Alexander Ross then sold this property to Arthur Morrison on Sept. 15, 1888 for $400. Morrison sold to James A. Fulton Sept. 1896 and Fulton in turn sold to Ernest Wilson on March 28th, 1905. Following Ernest Wilson’s death his heirs became the owners of the property. Bertha (Wilson) Dau later transferred the property to J. Arthur Wilson on July 5, 1939.

Edward Fulton

Owned in 1905 by Edward Fulton, and later owned by his daughter Bertha and her husband James S. Creelman. Burned January 1959. Mr. Creelman rebuilt it in a similar style afterwards. Later owned by Eva Grue.

Baptist Parsonage

In March 1887, a committee was appointed by the Portaupique Baptist Chuch to arrange for a parsonage to be erected in Bass River. On Nov. 3, 1888 the property was purchased from Alvin Crowe with 1 1/2 acres. The Deacons of the Portaupique Baptist Church who arranged this purchase were: Thomas Fulton, Jehiel Carr, Somerville Fulton and S.D. Davidson. The parsonage was sold by the trustees of the Bass River United Baptist Church to Rev. C. W. Neish on April 8, 1954.

Presbyterian Church

In 1865, Samuel James Fulton donated 1 1/4 acres to the local congregation for a Presbyterian meeting house. The construction of the church began in 1866 and was completed 1868. Mr. James Johnson was the contractor and was assisted by Tupper Creelman and Samuel Creelman. Alexander Cameron was the first minister, inducted into the Bass River Portapique Charge on July 15, 1873. The Christian Endeavor Hall was added around 1900 and the steeple later added in 1920. In 1955 there were extensive renovations to the sanctuary. The building was raised, the hall removed, and a new basement constructed in 1980.

R. D. Fulton

Owned by Rupert Fulton in 1905, this house was later owned by J.S. Creelman. It was renovated into two units and rented out to various families. One family was Lee and Jo Gilbert. J.S. Creelman later sold the property to Burt Rector. It burned on March 18, 1968. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson and their family were residing here at the time of the fire.

Thomas W. Fulton
This house is thought to be built around 1850-1860 judging from the style of the building. Sold by Samuel G. Dickie and his wife Sarah A. Dickie to Thomas W. Fulton in 1901. Thomas and his wife Eliza transferred the property to their son Seymour A. Fulton on Sept. 20, 1939. Later sold to Burt Crowe on Dec. 20, 1944. On April 19, 1948 Burt Crowe sold to Mrs. Marion MacDonald. Next to own the house was Kenneth I. Simpson who then sold the house to Sidney A. Chapman on July 3, 1974.
